(Born 17th January 1956) a Ugandan business magnate and investor. He is the Chairman and majority Shareholder in the companies of the Ruparelia Group. His investments are mainly in the areas of banking, insurance, education, broadcasting, real estate, floriculture, hotels and resorts.
According to Forbes Magazine, he is the wealthiest individual in Uganda and the East Africa. There is an urban Ugandan legend that Sudhir owns half of the buildings in Kampala, but he denies it; he does admit to owning a quarter of the buildings in Kampala’s Central Business District.
In November 2013, he was reported to be the 24th wealthiest individual in Africa, with an estimated net worthof US$1.1 billion. Sudhir Ruparelia was born in Kabatoro, Kasese District in Western Uganda to an upper-middle-class family. His great-grandfather reached Mombasa in1897 and set up a trading store there before coming to Uganda in 1903. His grandfather was born in Uganda in1918 and his father in 1932. Sudhir has two sisters and one brother. He attended Bat Valley Primary School in Kampala, from P1 to P6, then Jinja Main Street Primary School in Jinja for P7 and Jinja Secondary School. In 1971,he joined Kololo Secondary School.
In 1989, beer importation was banned to encourage local brewing of alcohol and he realised he could not make beer. But since his customers who were mainly foreigners paid him in foreign currency, he started Crane Forex Bureau, the first in Uganda. With his profits, Sudhir ventured in to the businesses, including forming Crane Bank in 1995. Later,he organized his businesses under the umbrella of the Ruparelia Group of Companies. Sudhir Ruparelia is married to Jyotsna and they have three children: Meera (married to Ravi Kotecha in 2014) is the eldest, Rajiv his only son, holds Senior Positions in the Ruparelia Group Conglomerate.

In 2013, he graduated from Regents College London, UK with a Degree in Financial Management. In a build up to his career, he has worked with Millennium Marble 2000 Limited as project manager and was responsible of ensuring that all logistical issues were handled properly, on-going construction projects met set deadlines and to ensure that architects and engineers worked in accordance with project needs.
From 2011 – 2012, he worked with Jaffery Forex Bureau Limited and is still actively involved in day to day forex trading and marketing ventures.
Rajiv is the Managing Director of Crane Management Services a Large Property Management form with over 450 Properties under its wing. He and plays a key role in property management in the Country.
Since 2010, Rajiv is a member of Grace Children’s Village, Kabale in which he is helping design, build and finance a sustainable orphanage unit. In this community, he is funding 8 children to attend school, have clean water and 3 meals a day.
Mrs. Ruparelia has been instrumental in the growth and expansion of the Ruparelia family business where she has actively participated in operations and management.
She heads the grants division of the foundation. Her expertise is in foreign exchange operations and financial management. Jyotsna is well-known for her expert decision-making and management skills which have seen her successfully co-steer the various businesses to success.
